Ubicación: Lake Pátzcuaro

This beautiful estuary is located four kilometers from the center of Pátzcuaro. It is not only one of the most beautiful places in the world, but also one of the highest lakes on the planet. The history of Michoacán is closely linked to it, which is also part of the city's coat of arms as a primary element and has countless stories and legends related to the Purhépechas and their origin.
Unfortunately, this lake has not been able to escape the aggressiveness of man or the climatic changes of the planet, which have affected its level. It currently has five islands, which are: Janitzio, la Pacanda, Yunuén, Tecuén, a small islet called “la Tecuenita”, because it is close to the latter, and Jarácuaro, which can now also be reached by road. These waters are inhabited by five species of fish: the famous white fish (in danger of extinction), black bass (commonly called trout), acúmara and other smaller fish, called tiruhs and cheguas.
In addition, the lake is surrounded by 26 indigenous villages, each with its own beauty and personality, which we recommend visiting. There is a beautiful and well-paved panoramic road that starts in Pátzcuaro and goes around it to connect with the highway to Guadalajara, very close to Quiroga.

Janitzio

One of the main attractions of the region is the boat trip to this island, whose name means “corn hair” and is the largest and most important island in the lake.
