The Morelia Planetarium (Planetarium Lic. Felipe Rivera) was inaugurated on September 29, 1975. It is equipped with a Carl Zeiss Mark IV projector, designed by the German engineer Walther Bauersfeld and manufactured by the German company Carl Zeiss AG, with which more than 8,000 stars can be observed in the sky. It exhibits spaceships, 12 scale pieces and a life-size model of an astronaut suit.
Today, it has 175 star-projecting lenses in a 20-metre hemispherical dome. In addition, it is possible to observe the diurnal rotation of the sky, as well as the geocentric displacement of the sun, moon and planets.
It also offers 24 niches with astronomical posters and scale models, 4 thematic murals, 2 displays of astronaut suits and a fictional life-size suit.
This facility features a beautiful comet-shaped structure, which is complemented by its unique interior: an eight-pointed star. The Morelia planetarium is one of the best in Latin America; it has an exhibition hall, a conference room and a language laboratory so that the little ones can have fun learning.
Services:
- Lectures are given
