Pilgrimage of artisans in Santa Clara del Cobre

August 2nd

The copper workers venerate the Virgin of the Tabernacle and Saint Clara of Assisi, walking along the main avenue of the Magical Town of Santa Clara del Cobre, each one carrying a piece of copper that they will offer to the Virgin and Clara of Assisi, as gratitude for the year's sales, or, to continue the subsistence of this artisan activity that has been carried out by the locals for several generations.

The sound of fireworks in the sky announces to the copper artisans that they must arrive at the meeting place. No matter which artisan workshop they work in or whether they work on their own, they meet and greet each other to begin the pilgrimage in honor of the Virgin of the Tabernacle and Saint Clare of Assisi, whom they thank for their work and ask for a favorable year. They all carry with them a piece of copper of different sizes, but here, what matters is the faith of each one of them.

A tradition that has transcended from one generation to another is still in force, nobody knows when it began, since the previous generations only remember that their grandparents already did it and the new ones continue with this tradition, every year they come to the pilgrimage to give thanks for the sales, because they have large orders or simply because it is a trade that they inherited from their ancestors, and that continues to be in force to date.

The coppersmiths hold in their hands tuberose flower branches, as well as their copper crafts such as ladles, vases, trays, jugs, paintings, jewelry, targas, fruit bowls, necklaces, earrings and the whole range of copper pieces, which they leave on the altar of the Virgin of the Tabernacle, one of the patron saints of the town, without forgetting Saint Clare of Assisi, an image that they carry at the front of the entire pilgrimage and that makes its way with the music played by the wind band.
