The Dulces Morelianos Calle Real company founded this museum to preserve the history and traditions of the production of Michoacan sweets. It shows the customs of the inhabitants of pre-Hispanic Mexico, their varied and rich gastronomy, the native plant species of our continent and those brought by the conquerors, friars, nuns and other expeditionaries from the old world, and you will witness the beginning of the production of sweets in the convents and monasteries of the colony. In the rooms of this cultural space, the life of Morelia is recreated from its beginnings to the present day, full of complex social customs and exquisite architecture, as well as its context in the times of independence, reform and revolution. You will witness how, in pink stone houses, Morelian families shaped this sweet-making tradition and transformed it into a new economic activity, beginning its commercialization in the first establishments of the city.

It shows the main contributions to the confectionery industry that enriched the great number of sweets and desserts that today are the delight of all those who live or visit this beautiful colonial city. The extensive variety of traditional sweets within a Morelian atmosphere that transports you to the colonial and Porfirian eras, where spaces, colors and flavors merge with legends, history and tradition. It exhibits a colonial kitchen where you can see the artisanal preparation of Morelian sweets, as well as a room with miniature models of the three great stages of Morelian sweets, the convents, the mansions and the first factories with steam machinery with which the sweets were made in the 40s. The gallery of old photos of the city of Morelia, the 19th century carriage yard, and the screening of a film about the history and traditions of yesteryear.

It has four rooms:

  • History room, where you can see models of the former Convent of Santa Rosa de Lima, the artisanal way in which ate was made and the steam machinery of the 20th century.
  • The colonial kitchen room, where you can see the preparation of the sweet called ate.
  • The Gallery with more than 130 photos, collection of the chronicler José Antonio Romo.
  • The movie theater, where the history of sweets is shown from ancient times to the present day.
