Vasco de Quiroga assigned the inhabitants of Capula the industries of pottery and wood cutting and gave them Saint James the Apostle as their patron.
The Church of Santiago Apóstol is located in the Dolores neighborhood of Capula, Michoacán, Mexico. This colonial-style church is a place of great historical and cultural importance for the local community. Built in the 16th century, its facade and architectural structure reflect the Spanish influence in the region.
The interior of the church is majestic, with beautiful altars, religious paintings, and a well-preserved sacristy. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility and serenity that this sacred place offers, and marvel at the elaborate religious craftsmanship that adorns it.
The decoration shown on the cover corresponds to several medallions with motifs apparently of the creator saints of the various religious orders that came to Michoacán: Franciscans, Augustinians, Jesuits and Dominicans.
The Christ in this church shows indigenous features and was found during excavations. Its tower was built at the end of the 19th century. Every July 25th the town celebrates its patron saint, Santiago Apóstol.
