The little cross hill

The hill of Crucita, in Zacapu, was the most important center of the area, where the priests and chieftains resided. In this archaeological zone you can find vestiges of palaces, a castle, yácata foundations, and ruins of houses, baths, and a pyramid of thirteen thrones.

The stepped slope of the hill presents numerous "balconies" that resemble those of the Incas in the Andes. .

The Cerro de la Crucita is a recreational space with a great history. Along the way, you can find remains of the Purépecha civilization, such as clay, obsidian, and little-explored yácatas.

In the Early Postclassic (900-1200 AD), the site of El Palacio-La Crucita was built at the southeastern edge of the Malpaís de Zacapu. At this time, pottery shows contacts with the Central Highlands, in particular with Tula, the capital of the Toltecs.

In the 16th century, Zacapu was a major political, administrative, military, cultural and religious centre. However, it depended on the rulers of Tzintzuntzan, who were descended from Caltzontzin.
