House of the Counts of Villahermosa and Alfaro

The house, also known as the “House of Shields”, is a large building that shows that its former inhabitants had a good life. It is located in front of the Vasco de Quiroga square.

Its façade is simple and only highlights the ornamentation of the family coats of arms, intertwined with bands of raised mortar, which seems to give importance to the noble coats of arms of Villa Hermosa de Alfaro and Ortega, since the owner was also a Viscount.

The great heroine of Pátzcuaro, Mrs. Gertrudis Bocanegra de Lazo de la Vega, was born in this house. She actively participated in the independence movement.
