Cómo llegar a Pátzcuaro

Pátzcuaro is located approximately 385 km. from the capital of the Mexican republic, and more or less the same distance from Guadalajara, Jalisco. It lies on route 120, which splits from highway #15 (México-Guadalajara ) and passes through Quiroga, 20 minutes from  Pátzcuaro, and then through Tzintzuntzan, the legendary capital of the old empire Purhépecha. It is advisable to change foreign currency to Mexican pesos at the airport exchange offices, purchase a taxi ticket at the authorized service windows within the airport, the approximate cost of which is 26 US dollars.

Passenger rail service is suspended due to the restructuring of Ferrocarriles Nacionales. If you arrive from the Morelia city airport, you will have to take a taxi to the Morelia Bus Terminal (the approximate cost is 21 US dollars); board a bus to the city of Pátzcuaro (the cost of the ticket is approximately three US dollars). It has almost the same cost if you arrive from Uruapan.

If you make your trip by car, you can use the Mexico-Morelia-Guadalajara super highway, take the detour to the city of Morelia and then continue along the highway to Pátzcuaro passing by Tiripetío with a journey of approx. 40 minutes. The distance between the cities of Mexico and Pátzcuaro takes approximately five hours. and from Guadalajara the journey is around four hours.

If you want to save time and avoid passing through Morelia, there is a superhighway whose deviation is a couple of kilometers from the junction of the Mexico – Guadalajara and Salamanca – Morelia highways. We are referring to the Cutizeo – Pátzcuaro, which allows a saving of one hour of time in any direction.

CLIMATE

The height of Pátzcuaro above sea level is 2,140 meters and it is surrounded by beautiful mountains populated mainly by fir, oak and pine forests, although there are also cedar and juniper, vegetation that characterizes one of the most beautiful regions of Mexico. Its approximate population is 80,000 inhabitants. The climate is semi-temperate and the rainy season is during the months of June to October.

During this season, it regularly rains in the afternoons, which allows you to take advantage of the clear mornings to walk outdoors, visit and photograph the island of Janitzio, the “styrrup” or “small styrrup” viewpoints and any of the small towns that They surround the famous Lake Pátzcuaro.
